Survey on the state of the art of carbon-based nanomaterial detection and quantification in environmental and biological matrices

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has launched a survey through a subcontractor (NovaMechanics Ltd) on the state of the art of carbon-based nanomaterial detection and quantification in environmental and biological matrices. The survey is part of a study which objective is to provide EUON and its stakeholders with an overview of available methods on the characterisation, detection and quantification of nanomaterials in complex matrices, as well as an insight into their readiness for standardisation.  

Updates on the Regulation on Cosmetic Safety Standards in South Korea

  • On 2nd August, the Food and Safety Ministry in South Korea has opened a consultation period on a draft amendment to the regulation of cosmetics. The amendment proposes updates on banned and “allowed with restrictions” substances. In particular: 
  • Nonoxynol-9 will have an allowed limit of 17.2% 

  • Butylphenyl methylpropional will have an allowed limit of 0.14%

UPDATE: NIA Consultation on Canadian Proposed Approaches to Regulating Nanoscale Substances – DEADLINE: 13 May 2015

Environment Canada and Health Canada opened a consultation on a Proposed Approach to address Nanoscale Forms of Substances in the Domestic Substances List. Established under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA 1999), the DSL lists substances that are manufactured in or imported into Canada, substances that are not listed are considered new
