SUNUM is one of the four “National Research Infrastructures” in Turkey under the law No.6550 for 5 years starting from 2017. It has ties with Sabancı University which is ranked first in the National Entrepreneurial and Innovative Universities Index and holds significant positions in international world rankings such as Times Higher Education (THE) and Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

SUNUM is a two-story, 7400 m2 building with 850 m2 clean room, 1600 m2 for multi-disciplinary laboratories and 2400 m2 office and general use, all furnished with high tech equipment to support R&D in nanotechnologies. SUNUM is located in Sabancı University campus and is engaged in highly effective multidisciplinary research programs, bringing together researchers with expertise spanning advanced materials, nano-biotechnology, nano-electronics, micro-nano fluidics, micro-nano-electromechanical systems and nano-engineering.

The University undertakes nanotechnology applications in priority sectors for Turkey creating an effective interface between industry as internationally recognized and open to all users as a "National Research Infrastructure".  Research generates results that create socio-economic impact in the areas where the synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials intersects with vertical thematic areas such as life sciences, food, agriculture, water and environment, energy, defense, aviation, space applications.
