The Nanotechnology Industries Association (NIA) has today submitted its contribution to the European Commission’s Call for Evidence for the Advanced Materials Act.

We have highlighted the important role that nanomaterials still plays in Europe’s advanced materials strategy and used nanomaterials as an example of the long timeframes faced by materials research and production.

The NIA has made a wide range of recommendations as to the actions required to support the strengthening of Europe’s advanced materials sector grouped under 3 ambitions that we believe are crucial:

  • Give Europe the ability to create and use advanced materials at scale
  • Institute a simpler regulatory system and give industry the tools  to navigate it
  • Increase Europe’s global competitiveness and reinforce its leadership in the research, innovation, adoption, application, and circularity of advanced materials

We will continue our work both directly with the Commission and through our participation in the Technology Council for Advanced Materials to call for the policy and investment support needed to allow Europe to build up its advanced materials sector and to ensure that nanomaterials remain an important subset within advanced materials.
