The 12th revision of the SCCS Notes of Guidance for the testing of cosmetics ingredients and their safety evaluation was released on 16th May 2023. This update includes a throughout review on the use of NAMs and AOPs in the evaluation of the safety assessment of cosmetics, as well as a description of New Generation Risk Assessment Approaches.
Regarding nanomaterials, besides reviewing all key parameters to be taken into account, the notes of Guidance highlights that it is likely that the definition of nanomaterial in the Cosmetics regulation will be aligned with the recently published Commission recommendation on the definition of a nanomaterial (2022/C 229/01 Commission Recommendation of 10 June 2022).
