NIA participated in the ILSI NanoRelease Food Additive project that in 2014 published several paper in scientific journals.
NIA has set up a process to consult with its Members, in order to provide replies to official consultations. In the course of this process, NIA prepares a draft reply to the consultation that is shared to its Members for comments well ahead of the deadline of the consultation. The comments provided by its Members are incorporated and the final reply, supported by NIA Members, is submitted to the consultation:
- In July 2012, NIA submitted a detailed reply the FDA's draft guidance document for industry on significant manufacturing process changes of food ingredients and food contact substances. The final FDA guidance was published and implemented in June 2014.
In collaboration with its Members NIA frequently provides briefings on proposed and implemented regulations:
- In January 2012, NIA published a detailed briefing on a lawsuit filed by a US coalition of nonprofit consumer safety and environmental groups against the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for alleged failure to regulate what the coalition deems health and environmental risks stemming from nanotechnology-enabled products put on the market.
