NIA Members benefit from the involvement of the association in standardisation activities. NIA provides is members with first-hand accounts of meetings, briefings and reports on the developments of standardisation. NIA is the voice of the nanotechnology industries at the national (UK), regional and international levels of standardisation.
NIA directly represents its Members at the most important and influential standardisation committees where it promotes the responsible and sustainable development of nanotechnology.

In the UK, NIA is a full member of the BSI/NTI1 committee. BSI/NTI1 also participates in the discussions at CEN, ISO and IEC committees.
NIA is also a liaison member to nanotechnology standardisation committees:
- at the international level with ISO/TC 229, and,
- at the regional level with CEN/TC 352.
This involvement in standardisation procedures results in opportunities for SMEs and larger industries member of NIA to be represented in the process of nanotechnology standardisation. Furthermore, NIA offers its members a chance to influence standardisation towards standards that are more suited to their needs as NIA conducts industrial consultations with its members and has held more than 25 of them in the last two years.
