'In Australia, three authorities share the responsibility of enforcing regulatory control over sunscreens. Together with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) operate the National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme (NICNAS) and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).'
At the end of 2012, the TGA has been amending its regulation to suit the needs of a new standard on sunscreen protection levels. While doing so the TGA 'reminded the public that "nanoparticulate titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are commonly used in sunscreens"'. In parallel 'NICNAS has been discussing the consequences of upgrading its regulation to the latest standard' at the beginning of 2013; its position on nanoscale materials is, however, not yet known.
