At the 19-20 November meeting of CARACAL Committee an update of REACH Annex II ‘Requirements for the compilation of safety data sheets’ was given a favourable opinion by all the Member States. The act is now out for scrutiny with a deadline for 7 March. If no objections is provided during the scrutiny by the European Council and the Parliament, it shall apply from 1 January 2021.
The regulation itself is only composed of three articles, and allow for the current types of SDS to be used up until 31 December 2022. The Annex of the regulation is the text of the new Annex II of the REACH regulation ‘Requirements for the compilation of safety data sheets’.
Due to the inclusion of nanoforms in the REACH Annexes, there are several consequential changes for nanoforms in the new Annex II for SDS. The SDS should mention in each relevant section if nanoforms are covered and if needed shall be indicated by using the word ‘nanoform’.
