On 22 January, the EC Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) working group on nanomaterials in cosmetic products held its latest meeting. The topics for discussion included e.g. a request from DG GROW for a joined memorandum of concerns with the Scientific Committee on Health, Environment and Emerging Risks (SCHEER). The WG also discussed a new draft mandate related to CMR exemption for TiO2 (both nano and non nano forms).
The WG also made progress on several draft opinions, inlcluding new informaiton submitted for hydroxiapatite, and the draft opinions on gold, copper, platinum and ZnO coatings. The next meeting on the WG will be on 8 April. The minutes of the meeting are available.
The SCCS published in January a one page citizens fact sheet on the SCCS Guidance on the safety assessment of nanomaterials in cosmetics. This fact sheet is based on the October 2019 full Guidance.
