The Japan Business Council in Europe (JBCE) has released a paper calling for an harmonized approach to the hazard classification of multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), based on the latest information available on MWCNT effects and consistent with the classification of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

The paper argues that the morphologies, physicochemical properties, and effects on the human organism of CNT depend on the different methods employed for their production, and that therefore different types of CNT should be evaluated separately depending on their characteristics rather than being grouped together.
