Anses, the French National Agency for Food, Environmental, and Occupational Health Safety, has published an inventory of 37 manufactured substances determined to have particles at the nanoscale present in food, originating through additives or exposed through contact materials. The inventory will be used to establish health risks for consumers, apply this approach to a selection of substances and to propose a methodology for assessing nanospecific risk. Work is supported by EFSA's publication of a guide to the best risk assessments for evaluation of substances, where nano-specific methods might be suitable.
The first results are expected by early 2021.
