ACS has released an article on the current and potential future framework for regulating intentionally produced nanoplastics in the EU.
Co-authored among others by NIA member Birmingham University, the article discusses whether nanoplastics would be better regulated as nanomaterials or polymers, and analyzes the relevant policy and legislative processes currently ongoing at EU level.
This continues to be an important topic in the debate on plastic waste and environmental protection. In 2020, the NIA released a position paper contributing to the discussion, and illustrating the need to use a precise terminology to avoid any confusion between intentionally produced and accidental nanoplastics.
