The Office for Product Safety and Standards in the UK (OPSS) published an invitation to relevant parties (academia, manufacturers of cosmetic products/raw materials and consumer associations) to submit any scientific information relevant to the safety assessment of nanomaterials used in cosmetics., following Artilce 16 of the UK Cosmetics Regulation. This regulation states that nanomaterials must be notified to the Secretary of State at least six months prior to being placed on the market. Notifications including nanomaterials not listed in Annex IV, V, and VI must contain additional data on the safety of the nanomaterial (UK Article 16). Hence the OPSS invites the abovementioned parties to submit scientific information relevant to safety assessment of the following list of materials (including surface functionalised variants, alloys or any other relevant variant); Platinum (nano), Copper (nano), Silver (nano), collodal Silver (nano), Gold (nano), colloidal Gold (nano), Gold Thioethylamino Hyaluronic acid (nano), Silica (nano), Hydrated Silica (nano), Silica Silylate (nano), Silica Dimethyl Silylate (nano), Lithium Magnesium Sodium Silicate (nano), Hydroxyapatite (nano). Data submitted must include all relevant elements following the SCCS on the safety assessment of nanomaterials in cosmetics.
