The NIA as part of BIAC attended the OECD WPMN23 meeting and provided updates on activities including the NanoHarmony OECD Process Mentor contribution as being developed as part of the NanoHarmony project. Updates on the Safe and Sustainable Innovation Approach (SSIA) and Advanced Materials (AdMa) Steering Groups (SG) where NIA contributes, were provided by lead Member States. The OECD is still looking for case studies to test under the AdMa SG, which South Africa will join to share their activities of a newly awarded project termed "Graphene and Graphene Family Materials (GFMs): a case study of Advanced Materials". Generally, a large extend of activities are being carried out under the OECD WMPN umbrella to adapt testing guidelines to nanomaterials, however more testing gaps are constantly being identified and a need for prioritisation should be put into place.

Updates were provided on the following, and interested NIA member may contact the NIA should they be interested in any of the following:

  • Guidance on Release Tests for Manufactured Nanomaterials
  • Scoping Review for a Tiered Approach for Reliable Bioaccumulation Assessment of MNs in Environmental Organisms Minimising Use of Higher Tier Vertebrate Test
  • Reviewing the Guidance on Sample Preparation and Dosimetry
  • Guidance Document on Grouping
  • Guidance on Consumer Exposure Models/Tools for Manufactured Nanomaterials and Advanced Materials
  • Guidance on Release Test for Manufactured Nanomaterials

Identification of factors that can be measured to evaluate exposure to Nano-Objects and their Aggregates and Agglomerates (NOAA) in the workplace
