The NIA as a Stakeholder Observer at the European Chemical Agency’s (ECHA) for the NMEG was asked to provide topics for the next meeting to be held 23-24 April 2024 (at ECHA headquarters). Following consultations with NIA members the following topics were raised for the attention of ECHA and we currently await their final selection to be included on the meeting’s agenda:

  • How to consider physical form and coatings in classification entries to proceed regarding other substances in the Annex VI to CLP where the classification of the nanoform of a substance is distinct from that for other forms (including coatings).
  • CLP Classification of MWCNT based on recent studies.
  • EU Common Platform on Chemicals- Update and implications for substances with nanoforms (including OSOA) See reference
  • Re-attribution of scientific and technical tasks to ECHA – Impact of the different guidance related to nano including EFSA and the SCCS. See reference
  • Update on the Priority List exercise coordinated by BAUA, RIVM, LIST and NIA from the Malta Initiative ref. Feedback from the consultation of priorities for test development regarding nanomaterials presented at the NMEG-18 meeting
  • Landscape of laboratories offering services to address requirements of nanomaterials under REACH
  • Status of the implementation of the latest recommendation for a definition of nanomaterial across different regulations. See reference

This group meets twice a year where it provides informal and non-binding scientific and technical advice on questions related to the regulation of nanomaterials or nanoforms of substances in the frame of the implementation of European legislation such as REACH, CLP, BPR, EUON and other issues of relevance to ECHA’s work. The NIA will provide a report to update members after the meeting.
