Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is of paramount importance in relation to public health and the environment, yet it has long been relegated to the periphery of policy formulation—only to recently resurface. The shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown the issue of indoor air pollution into sharp relief. This comes at a time when Europeans continue to spend around 90% of their time indoors, a habit unchanged from pre-pandemic times.
Why, then, does IAQ remain an enigmatic policy matter? What historical factors have contributed to regulatory lapses in this area? And what are the hurdles in gathering the right evidence for the development of effective policies?
In the light of these questions, the EDIAQI project invites you to our inaugural webinar: "Indoor Air Quality: Always a Bridesmaid, never a Bride”. This session, scheduled for the 19th of April, will delve into the intricacies of IAQ, the interaction between indoor and outdoor air quality, and underscore the significance of data in shaping policies for healthier living environments. Throughout the discussion, we'll examine current knowledge, potential health impacts from immediate symptoms to long-term conditions, and the EU policy framework. The goal is to highlight the pressing need to bridge the knowledge gaps surrounding IAQ and to propel it to the forefront of European citizens' concerns—a central objective of the EDIAQI project.
