In this year’s annual report, entitled Global Risks 2008 - A Global Risk Network Report, the Global Risk Network again mentions nanotechnology in its list of ‘Core Global Risk’.

Since its creation in 2004, the World Economic Forum’s Global Risk Network has repeatedly included nanotechnology in its Global Risks report; this year’s report outlines the issues under Technological risks: ‘Increasing human exposure to nanotechnology will increase severity should an event occur, but this has to be balanced against the multiple opportunities created by nanotechnology’.

In an overall ranking of all Core Global Risks, however, the ‘Emergence of nanotechnology Risks’ is expected to have one of the lowest severity impacts in terms of both economic loss and number of deaths.
