On 3 November, 2018, Commission Regulation (EU) 2018/1881 was published which address nanomaterials and nanoforms of substances falling under REACH.

The text was adopted in April 2018, and after scrutiny by the Council and the Parliament it is now published. The regulation shall apply from 1 January 2020.

The regulation specifies what companies should provide with regards to nanoforms of substances falling under REACH. Nanoforms are substances that are nanomaterials according to the 2011 Commission nanomaterial definition.

To support industries providing information following the published regulation, ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) has initiated its process to revise its guidance documents. Revised guidance documents are expected to be available before the application of the regulation.

NIA and its Members have been actively engaged in providing input to the regulation and will continue to do so during the ECHA guidance development
