NIA commented on the Draft Manual for the Methodology for Identification and Assessment of Substances for Inclusion in the List of Restricted Substances (annex II) under the RoHS2 Directive that Environment Agency Austria (EAA) (Umweltbundesamt Österreich) has put up for discussion. The proposed Draft Manual proposes a methodology for the inclusion of new substances to Annex II of the Directive on the Restriction of the use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS2).

On behalf of its members, NIA answered this 3rd Internet Consultation with comments on points that relate to the use of nanomaterials in electrical and electronic equipment and their fate at the waste stage. The comments show important concern on the fact that this Draft Manual considers nanomaterials as potentially harmful and aims at the creation of an inventory of nanomaterials used in electrical and electronic equipment, thus not respecting the will of the European Commission.
