The Nanotechnology Industries Association (NIA) urged the French Government to withdraw its 'Decree regarding the annual mandatory reporting of nanoparticulate substances placed on the market' ('décret relatif à la déclaration annuelle des substances à l'état nanoparticulaire mises sur le marché'), which had been opened by the French Government for public consultation until the 28th February 2011; the NIA noted that the decree undermined the European free market and acted against the conditions specified in its regulations and in the EC Treaty. In its submission to the public consultation, the NIA furthermore pointed out the technical and scientific challenges in implementing the decree.
