Session 1 - Nanomaterial definitions, REACH and global regulatory priorities

The opening session addresses EU and global regulatory perspectives on nanomaterials.  From the EU, we will talk about REACH annex updates and progress, in addition to the long-term priorities foreseen in Europe.  Moving to a global level, the session covers OECD actions (including ‘the Malta project’), likely regulatory pathways in regions as Oceania, South Korea and South America and collaboration priorities outside the EU.

Session 2 - Nanoforms; to group or not to group, that is the questions

As nanoforms come into focus, cross-community collaboration is needed to support dossier planning for REACH registration.  This session focuses on the work undertaken in NIA’s Global Regulatory Working Group, resulting in a draft position paper and roadmap to support Members.

Session 3 - Nanotechnology crossing sectors

Food production and packaging is an emerging application for nanomaterials, with regulatory development guiding likely market access.  This session hears from the European Food Safety Agency about guidance under development, emerging nano applications and views from the EFSA Nano Network before a detailed look into regulatory dossier development for food contact materials.

Session 4 - Global innovations within nanotechnology

NIA members are now working to track and share innovations across the world through the Nanotechnology Innovation Council.  We will hear the first review of Member priorities, plus an insight into the role of blockchain within nanotechnology and how NIA Members can help develop the first application into nano value chains.
