EC Validation Workshop on Transparency Measures for Nanomaterials

Event Dates:
Monday, June 30, 2014 -
09:00 to 17:00
Event Venue:
Brussels (Belgium)

The Commission is organising a validation workshop to discuss the preliminary results of the study supporting the impact assessment on transparency measures for nanomaterials.

The impact assessment on transparency measures for nanomaterials is a response to concerns about potentially inadequate action on health and environmental risks of nanomaterials and potentially suboptimal consumer choices as a result of lack of information being currently available to authorities, downstream user industries, distributers, workers and consumers. Over the course of the impact assessment exercise, a number of policy options will be defined, refined and assessed, such as a single nanoregistry at an EU level with different variations, a structured effort to collect available information on nanomaterials, a recommendation on best practices for national registries or no additional action compared to the current legal framework.

A study has been launched to evaluate existing notification systems for nanomaterials and to collect data in support of the assessment of different policy options. Preliminary results of this study will be made available by mid-June 2014. These results will be discussed with interested stakeholders at the validation workshop. During this workshop, stakeholders will be invited to provide their input on the study and the related impact assessment.

Please note that stakeholders are also cordially invited to participate in the on-going public consultation (from 13 May until 5 August 2014).

NIA's Steffi Friedrichs will be attending on behalf of NIA.
